Black Theatre Network Call for Submissions
Black Theatre Network’s 37th Annual Conference
Afrofuturism: Envisioning Black Theatre
July 20 – July 24, 2023
St. Louis, MO
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
The Black Theatre Network seeks panel/roundtable proposals, scholarly papers, workshops, and presentations for peer review constructed around our conference theme, Afrofuturism: Envisioning Black Theatre.
Since 1986, BTN has been leading the charge of collecting, processing, and distributing information to support the professional and personal development of Black Theatre. To attain this goal, we convene annually and provide scholarly discourse for specific sectors of our constituency by:
· Assisting theatre professionals (producers, directors, actors, designers, playwrights, and arts administrators) with new works development, best practices and networking opportunities.
· Training instructors, students, and educators in best practices and professional development.
· Publishing a peer-reviewed journal for scholarship on the theatre of the African Diaspora.
· Sponsoring design/designers, scholarship, actors’ training, and mentoring for college students and emerging artists.
· Providing an opportunity for acting students to attend specialized classes and showcase their talent at the Student Quest Monologue Competition.
As thought leaders and visionaries, BTN continues to adapt our mission to be more service-oriented as we progress forward academically and professionally. To that end, we invite submissions in the following areas as they pertain to this year’s conference theme.
“Afrofuturism is all about evaluating the past, present and future and imagining a world that encourages better conditions for Black people through literature, music, technology, and arts. In afrofuturism, the world has a structure that doesn’t violently oppress Black communities.” ~Rell (www.blerd.com)
